Can I firstly just say how much I love Mystery Jets and their love of the 80′s. When I saw them play last year at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan they turned up in matching pale pink and light blue suits….very fetching. They continued with the matching band outfit theme for their first trip to Australia when they played at the Metro last Sunday night. They wore matching sparkly tops and vests (sorry no pics, couldn’t bring my camera in!) and lead singer Blaine Harrison even wore some rather lovely pearls.
And to the music…I really adore their second album Twenty One. Every song is super catchy and poptastic and I for one love it. The (all ages) crowd loved it too, the kids were going crazy! They played lots of songs off Twenty One plus a few tracks off their first album Making Dens like The Boy Who Ran Away and You Can’t Fool Me Dennis.
I was hoping for a guest girl vocalist for the Laura Marling part of Young Love (as I had hoped in Japan) but alas ( I cannot swim…lol) the boys just both sang the track, with William on lead vocals, and Blaine doing Laura’s part….it’s just not quite the same. But then again I really have a soft spot for boy/girl vocals (hello Stars I’m talking to you!) so maybe its just me!
All in all a fun night of quirky Brit-pop goodness!!
