The indie girl’s guide to…Sia

Prelude
So I got some bargains at my local JB Hi Fi at the weekend. Picked up Howling Bells newie (not a bargain), Beach House‘s Devotion (for $7 bargain!) and Sia‘s Some People Have Real Problems (for $10 bargain!) it was the import version, not quite sure why it was so cheap, but glad it was.
Sia
I don’t know too much about Sia to tell you the truth. She’s originally from Adelaide but has been based overseas for many years now. She has had a bit of success in the US and UK which is great. To me she has always just been the Breathe Me girl – its a truly beautiful song that has been used for various commercials and tv shows and has a pretty awesome video clip (check it out on YouTube – all I’m gonna say is Polaroids and lots of them!). It was released back in 2004 and is off her Colour The Small One album. I have had Breathe Me on high rotation on my ipod since I bought the new album the other day .
Her latest album Some People Have Real Problems was released last year, and I am really loving the song Buttons, which is a secret track at the end. (I think it was originally released in 2007 though). The CSS remix of Buttons is getting lots of airplay on Triple J at the moment too. It’s quirky, it’s poppy, and I can dance around my room to it. Perfect.
And she’s touring in a few weeks. It’s her first ever Australian tour (I’m not sure how this can be, surely she would have toured here back in the day, but apparently not) so I am sure there are lots of die-hards out there excited for this. All the tour deets can be found here.
Here is a very cool neon glow-in-the-dark live performance of my fave Buttons. Enjoy x
PS – artwork
Oh and of course I how could I forget to mention the album artwork. I’m not really a fan of the Paint (computer program) style of drawing that is used throughout, but it works well for this and I love the cover art concept. One girl is unhappy cos its raining on her, and the other girl is happy despite having no legs or arms, see some people have real problems.
