The indie girl’s guide to…close encounters of the Coldplay kind
Coldplay @ Sound Relief
Sydney Cricket Ground
Saturday, 14th March, 2009
Coldplay opened the day’s proceedings at the Sydney Sound Relief concert to a not even half-full crowd at the SCG. They played the hit that started it all for them - Yellow - as giant yellow balloons filled with confetti bounced around the crowd.

Clocks and Viva La Vida were fantastic live too.

Then the rumours came true with John Farnham joining them on stage for a rendition of his hit You’re The Voice. A fantastic crowd sing-along moment. And I just read in the paper it was actually Coldplay’s idea for the duet.

They closed their set with a great rendition of Fix You from their X&Y album. Towards the end of the song Chris Martin jumped off the stage and over barriers into the crowd, which was quite unexpected. It all happened pretty quickly and security certainly weren’t ready for it. He ran through the crowd, being chased by, well…..everyone. Luckily the man can run fast.

And then craziness ensued as Chris ended up right next to where we were at the front of the barrier of the second section. It was one of those moments where we just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Everyone pounced on Chris, it was insane, I managed to snap some shots, amongst all the madness.

Then as quickly as he was there, he was off again, around the side of the barriers, and then after a few attempts he came up over the top of a barrier near the front of the stage, managed to get back on stage, and sing the last few bars of Fix You quite breathless. The whole thing was pretty epic.

Th full song and crowd run is up on YouTube. Check it out here and for a crowd perspective go here.
