The indie girl’s guide to…Sound Relief @ the SCG

The massive benefit concerts that were Sound Relief took place yesterday simultaneously at the SCG in Sydney and the MCG in Melbourne with all proceeds going to help flood and bushfire victims in Victoria and Queensland respectively.
The day started with a bang in Sydney with Coldplay opening proceedings, so much so that they get their own post here.
Wolfmother took to the stage with their new line-up, we saw footage of Kings of Leon’s set at the MCG (notably absent was Sex on Fire but given the reason for the concert completely understandable), Little Birdy played some new songs, Architecture in Helsinki were having lots of fun on stage and got the crowd moving, You Am I rocked out in their usual style, Sydney boy Josh Pyke played his sweet indie tunes to his biggest crowd yet, a mid-afternoon downpour before Marcia Hines saw the masses run for cover, next was Taylor Swift – I don’t really know who she is but she had big hair, Eskimo Joe and Jet both played some new songs amongst their big hits. Then there was a special announcement from Princes William and Harry, a minutes silence (a short minute mind you) and a live cross to the MCG to hear Kylie Minogue sing I Still Call Australia Home.
The Presets finished my day (no I didn’t stick around for Icehouse or Barry Gibb) off with a set of hit after hit, Talk Like That, Yippyo-Ay, This Boy’s In Love and Are You The One all got a play. It was absolutely bucketing down for the whole of their set, but dancing to The Presets in the pouring rain was definitely a highlight of the day. And of course they finished off with the rather massive My People.
