The Laneway Festival 2010 line-up was announced today and…..
Florence and the Machine
My first reaction is lame! Only because I was hoping for an appearance by Bat for Lashes, but alas my prophecy was not fufilled (hopefully one of the other summer festivals still to be announced will come to the party on that request/demand).
My favourite festival will return in 2010 with a line-up that includes:
-Echo & The Bunnymen
-Florence & the Machine
-Black Lips
-The XX
-Daniel Johnston
-Sarah Blasko
-N.A.S.A
-Eddy Current Suppression Ring
-Hockey
-Dappled Cities
-Mumford & Sons
-The Very Best
-Wild Beasts
-Whitley
-The Middle East
-Kid Sam
I am not dying to see anyone in particular on this line-up, although it will be cool to see Florence and Black Lips in action, and sing along loudly to Mumford & Sons, the current band du jour, and as Laneway is now a well-worn tradition amongst my friends, and a ridiculously fun day out, count me in. Not happy Jan with the changes to the Sydney venue though.
Sydney Laneway will be on Sunday, 31st January at the Sydney College of the Arts, Rozelle. Yes…a new venue…not impressed. I can see where the organisers are coming from, move to a bigger venue, more space, bigger crowd numbers – but what makes Laneway Festival special for me is:
a) its in a laneway in the middle of the city. There was a special vibe about seeing a band in the middle of the city on a lazy Sunday, in a space that would usually never hold such an event. I think by taking it out of the laneway/street/city it will lose a bit of the magic…I hope it doesn’t, but we’ll see…
b) a small crowd size, it’s always been an intimate gathering, which is quite enjoyable (and unique) for a music festival, so it will be interesting to see if/by how much the capacity increases in 2010.

Any idea what the capacity of SCA is?
I’m annoyed, I wanted it to be all small and calm like last year.
No, sorry I don’t know the capacity for the new venue, haven’t found it online anywhere!
